Switching from another provider

Bring your QR codes and short links over from Bitly, QR Tiger, Uniqode and others, and keep printed codes working.

What decides whether a printed code keeps working

A dynamic code holds a short address, and the printed code always goes to that address first. What happens after you switch depends on whose address it is.

Your own domain (for example go.yourcompany.com): the addresses are kept exactly, upper and lower case included. Once the domain points to Lynkarr, every printed code keeps working and nothing needs reprinting. Custom domains are on Business and Enterprise.

The old provider's address (bit.ly/..., qrco.de/... and the like): only that provider can answer it. While your account there stays open, change each code's destination to its new Lynkarr address and the scans come to Lynkarr. When you close that account, those codes stop working, so reprint the ones still being scanned first.

Static codes have the destination inside the code itself. There is nothing to move, and they keep working.

Scan history stays with the old provider. Download it there before you close the account.

Bringing your codes over

Switching is on every paid plan, within your plan's number of QR codes and short links.

  1. Open QR codes or Short links and choose Switch from another provider.
  2. Choose where you're coming from, and how to bring them in: both (a short link for each, plus a QR code of that link, in one import), QR codes only, or short links only.
  3. Upload the provider's export (.csv or .xlsx) and match its columns: the old printed address, where it goes, and a name. From Bitly you can instead paste an access token (Bitly: Settings, Developer settings, API, Generate token) and we read your links; the token is used once and not saved.
  4. Check the rows. Each shows what will happen: address kept, point the old one here, or new only. Rows already brought over are skipped, so running the same file again is safe.
  5. Bring them in.

Codes on the old provider's address

  1. Download the file from the Switch page. Each row has an old address and the new Lynkarr address to point it to.
  2. In your old provider's account, change each code's destination to its Lynkarr address. Some providers let you do this from a spreadsheet; otherwise it is one at a time.
  3. Press Check where the old addresses go. Each one you've done shows as Pointed here.
  4. Watch the scans on the Switch page. Until you reprint, every scan there came through the old printed code, so those are the ones to reprint before you close the old account.

Codes on your own domain

  1. Add the domain under Settings, then Custom domains. It stays pending until the DNS changes, which is expected.
  2. Bring your codes over. Rows on that domain show Address kept.
  3. Press Check where the old addresses go while the old provider still answers your domain. Every kept address should show Same destination.
  4. Change the DNS record as shown under Custom domains. The secure certificate is issued once the record points to Lynkarr, which usually takes a few minutes, so choose a quiet time.
Bring over every address on the domain before the DNS switch: after it, an address that wasn't brought over no longer answers.
