Who can see a card, and what else you can put on one

Listed, unlisted or locked — what each actually enforces — plus a video and a booking link.

Three answers, and what they really mean

**Anyone with the link, and nothing points at it.** Search engines are kept out and the company directory does not list it. The address still works for anybody it is forwarded to. This is what almost every tool means when it says a card is private, and it is worth knowing that before relying on it.

**Anyone, and it can be found.** Search engines are allowed in and the card appears in your company directory.

**Only with a word.** A word is asked for before anything at all is shown — including in a link preview, so a card shared into a group chat reveals that it is locked and nothing else. The only one of the three that survives the link being forwarded.

A card exists to be handed to strangers, so nothing stronger than a shared word is on offer. Anything that needed an account would break the moment somebody scanned your code at a conference, which is the thing the card is for.

Locking one

Choose **Only with a word** and set the word. You can read it back later from the same screen, so you can tell somebody who has forgotten it.

Changing the word shuts out everybody who had already answered — which is what changing a password should do. Wrong answers on a card are limited, and the limit counts against the card rather than the person, so somebody guessing cannot lock out a visitor who knows it.

Somebody who is turned away is not counted as a view. Your figures stay figures about people who saw the card.

A video

Paste a YouTube or Vimeo link, or point at a file in your media library.

For a link, the card shows a still and a play button, and **nothing is loaded from YouTube or Vimeo until somebody presses it**. Anybody who opens your card and does not watch the video is not reported to them at all. Pressing play loads the video from the privacy-enhanced address, which reduces what they record without eliminating it.

A file you host here plays from our address and involves nobody else. It does not start on its own — a card is usually opened on a phone on cellular, and spending somebody's data on a video they did not ask for is a poor first impression.

A booking link

A link to wherever you take appointments — Calendly, Cal.com, your own page. It opens theirs. We do not hold your calendar and do not pretend to know when you are free.
